God’s Promise Doesn’t Expire

A Reflection from The Plumb Line Press

We all grow up hearing things about ourselves. Some of them are good, many of them are not. They can come from parents, teachers, friends, enemies, or strangers who barely know us.

If you hear the same words enough times, you start to believe them.

You’ll never make it.”“People like you don’t get those opportunities.”“You’re not smart enough.”“You’re too young.”“You’re too old.” And one of the most dangerous? “This is just the way it is.

I once knew someone who’d been told since childhood, “You’re Black, and nobody’s going to help you out. You can’t do anything.” It wasn’t true. But years of hearing it made it feel like truth. They carried that lie like a backpack full of bricks. And even when they were standing in the sunlight, they still walked like they were in the shadows.

That’s what happens when we let people’s words replace God’s promises.

God’s truth says something entirely different:

For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the Lord, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you a hope and a future.” (Jeremiah 29:11)

Three More Scriptures to Stand On

  1. Isaiah 55:11So is my word that goes out from my mouth: It will not return to me empty, but will accomplish what I desire and achieve the purpose for which I sent it.

  2. Numbers 23:19God is not human, that he should lie, not a human being, that he should change his mind. Does he speak and then not act? Does he promise and not fulfill?

  3. 2 Corinthians 1:20 – “For no matter how many promises God has made, they are ‘Yes’ in Christ. And so through him the ‘Amen’ is spoken by us to the glory of God.

Prayer

Lord, open my ears to hear Your voice over every other voice. Show me the lies I’ve believed about myself and replace them with Your truth. Help me to walk in the plans You have for me — not the limits others have tried to set. Thank You that Your promises never expire and that You are faithful to fulfill every word You have spoken.

For Our Guests

Maybe you’ve carried words that were never meant for you. Perhaps you’ve believed a label that was never God’s design. You don’t have to walk with that weight anymore. His promise is for you, right here, right now. We welcome you to journey with us as we learn together how to live in the fullness of what God has said — and to lay down what He never spoke.
